Henryk Cześnik

Cześnik Henryk

Henryk Cześnik (born 1951 in Sopot) is a prominent Polish painter, draughtsman, and professor of fine arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Gdańsk. His work, often associated with the New Expressionism movement, is characterized by rawness, emotional intensity, and the unique use of unconventional substrates. Cześnik’s paintings function as a figurative theater where characters are deformed, subjected to the grotesque, and placed within an existential context, often balancing between the sacred and the profane. The artist has participated in over a hundred solo exhibitions worldwide, and his works are held in major museum collections in Poland (including the National Museums in Warsaw and Gdańsk) and abroad.
